August 5, 2010:

PRAISE GOD!!  Two women chose life for their babies this evening!!  I thought you might like to hear the stories…  Enjoy!

A young couple passed by a sidewalk counselor as they went into the abortion center.  The man took the information that the counselor offered but didn’t stop to talk, just looked at her strangely.  Five minutes later, he walked out of the center right to her and stood there.  She asked him if he wanted to talk.  He said, “I just can’t stay inside that place!  It’s so depressing!”  The counselor talked to the man for awhile, and he kept trying to justify the abortion.  Meanwhile, 3 teens, 1 pre-teen and a woman were praying on the sidewalk in front while another counselor was across the alley praying.  God touched the man’s heart at some point in the conversation because he softened and eventually listened to the advice, “Go fight for your baby!”  He said, “I’m going to go talk to her!”

Not much later, a girl and her mother came out and walked over to get rosaries from the counselor.  They were there to schedule an abortion but told me that the plan had changed!  The mother of the girl was in the room when the ultrasound was done, and when she saw on the screen her grandchild move, she said, “You’re not aborting my grandbaby!”  Her daughter is 7 months along!!  And that baby could be aborted!!  Thanks be to God that the grandmother saw that ultrasound!!

As the girl was showing the ultrasound photo to the counselor, the young man mentioned earlier walked by so the counselor asked him to come look at the photo.  After a few minutes of looking and talking, he told the counselor, “Go talk to her!”   His girlfriend came over and talked to the counselor and told her that she wasn’t going to have an abortion.  She said that her boyfriend had changed his mind after talking to the counselor and that helped her because she had seen “the children praying” and that made her not want to go through with it!!

PRAYER AND WITNESS!!  The girl whose mother saw the ultrasound—she was the recipient of prayers even if she never talked to anyone!!  The same with the young woman—and the presence of those young people touched a chord.  It is SO important that we never forget the power of prayer and witness!!

July 8, 2010:  Praise God! A young woman chose life this evening for her twins!  TWINS!  THANKS BE TO GOD!

"Brooke" was driving away when a counselor tried to give her some post-abortion info.  She said, "I didn't have an abortion!"  After a few questions, the counselor found out that Brooke is pregnant with twins!  She said that as she waited, she realized how much she was going to regret her decision if she went through with it.  Brooke was just beaming as she talked!

Here are some points to ponder about her story:
  • She didn't talk to a sidewalk counselor before she went inside.
  • She came to the decision when she thought about the future--"how will i feel later?"
  • She could have driven away and never told anyone!
The power of prayer is ENORMOUS!  We can never give up hope!  Praying outside the abortion center IS effective!  (She may have seen someone standing there praying.)  BUT...even if you can't come to the center, PRAY where you are!

God works in mysterious ways...we just need to trust!  The counselor stayed later than usual this evening because she was hoping that another woman with whom she DID talk would change her mind.  That woman had the abortion BUT God used the waiting in order for ALL OF US to find out about the twins!  If you have ever (or will ever--remember, God's time is not ours!) prayed for the end to abortion, YOU had a part in this too!  Isn't God generous??

To top this all off, a full rainbow filled the sky as the prayer partner (who stayed w/the counselor) drove home!  God's promise of HIS faithfulness!  Let's pray for an increase in ours!

from National Right to Life, May 30, 2010:  "Two days in American history that will live in infamy are December 7, 1941 and September 11, 2001.  Another infamous date in which a war was launched, a war against the unborn, is January 22, 1973.  As we remember the countless men and women who have given their lives to defend us, let us pledge again to defend the right to life of the unborn and remember the more than 50 million nameless children who have died since 1973."

How many of you are aware that the Susan G. Komen Foundation supports Planned Parenthood?  I just talked with another friend toay who was unaware so I thought maybe there are a lot of other pro-life people who don't know this fact.  If you don't believe me, search online and you'll find many results on this topic.  In fact, on Komen's own site, there is a letter from their "scientific advisor" that admits that some of their affiliates contribute to PP.  Click here to see for yourself.

Don't be fooled by the rhetoric that says that "the good" that Komen does outweighs the "harm that would come to women" if they did not exist.  Planned Parenthood is the leading provider of abortions.  This is an intrinsic evil.  It is ALWAYS wrong.  There is no weighing the pros and cons when an act is intrinsically--ALWAYS--evil.

Many of us have been affected by breast cancer--ourselves, our mothers, our daughters, our sisters, our friends....  This does not excuse us from standing up for the Truth!  There could be just as much good done by a non-abortion funding program than by one that feeds money to the abortion industry "king".

Boycott anything tied to the Komen Foundation!  Continue to pray for an end to abortion and for a renewal of the Culture of Life!

Tomorrow begins the holiest week of the year from Christians...and truly, for the entire world!

Msgr. Philip Reilly who founded Helpers of God's Precious Infants says that praying outside abortion centers is like going to Calvary.  "Just as Mary and John lovingly stood and prayed beneath Jesus' Cross as He died, we wish to remain with these children in the hour that they are crucified."   If you haven't prayed at the Center for Choice yet this Lent, please consider spending an hour there in prayer this week.

On Good Friday, there will be special times of prayer.  At 9:30am, the Rosary will begin, followed by the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and then Stations of the Cross.  At 11am, Christ the Word Presbyterian Church will lead an hour filled with prayer, song, and Scripture readings.  Abortions, unfortunately, will be taking place even on the day that commemorates Christ's death on the Cross, and yet what a powerful witness our prayerful presence will be!  "The light shines in the darkness...."  (John 1:5)

Another opportunity to be a Christian witness to the city of Toledo will be at 5pm for the Way of the Cross across the high-level bridge.  Meet in the parking lot of Good Shepherd Church (550 Clark St., Toledo, OH) by 4:50pm.  (For more information, contact Jeff Schmakel at (419) 867-1819 or (419) 578-0057.)

Wishing all of you a very blessed Holy Week!

It never ceases to amaze me....

This evening I spoke with a woman (Crystal) who was going into the abortion center to get an application.  She works at the hospital (forgot to ask which one) and said that her friend with whom she works also works at the abortion center and told her to apply.  Sad, isn't it?  For all we know, the nurse who helps in the delivery of babies at a hospital could also be helping in the killing of babies in the womb.  More than sad....sick!

Crystal told me that she doesn't believe in abortion yet thinks that if a woman has made that choice, she (Crystal) wants to be there to comfort her in the recovery when it's over.  I can't remember all the dialogue I had with her; suffice it to say, many times she agreed with me but still said that she couldn't tell someone what to do.  I told her, "We do it all the time!  If I wanted to go shoot someone, I couldn't do it.  Why not?  Why can't I murder whomever I want to?"  It doesn't make sense....abortion doesn't make sense....and yet they think, "it's their decision/choice/right."  I asked her to not sell her soul to the devil, not to take "blood money"....please pray for this woman that she doesn't go to work there.  (Hey!  Maybe someone quit!  Wouldn't that be great?!?)

The abortion doctor yelled to me tonight, "You look like a sensible person.  Why don't you go do something useful?  You aren't going to change these people's minds."  I told him that that was his opinion.  He stated that it was his opinion "after being in this business for 30 years."  30 years!  I told him that I was going to still pray, and of course he told me that was a waste of time, too.  If the prayers weren't doing something, he wouldn't be so adamant about telling me they weren't working....me thinks he doth protest too much!  :)

I talked with a couple of men--both saying they didn't like abortion "but....."  If abortion is such a good choice, why do people who are involved in it still feel the need to say they're against it?  Maybe because deep down, they know there are no "buts" about it!  It's wrong!

So....keep praying for a Culture of Life!  If you can, come down to the Center for Choice and pray at least once during Lent.  If you remember, sign in on the Stand & Pray form on www.prolifeconnection.com.  It helps others know that people are there.  If you don't want to take the time to sign in (before or after you go!), that's ok--come anyway!!  People have been showing up to pray quite a bit this Lent.  What a blessing!

This is a wonderful idea offered by a pro-life mother of many!  :)

The Red Envelope Campaign

Dear Friends and Intercessors:

This afternoon I was praying about a number of things, and my mind began to wander. I was deeply distressed at the symbolic actions that President Obama took as he began his presidency. Namely, that he signed executive orders releasing funds to pay for abortions, permission to fund human stem cell research, and federal funding for contraception. I have been involved in the pro-life movement for nearly 20 years, and it pained my heart to see a man and a political party committed to the shedding of innocent blood. This man, and this party lead our country, but they do not represent me or the 54% of Americans who believe that abortion is wrong and should no longer be legal.

As I was praying, I believe that God gave me an interesting idea. Out in the garage I have a box of red envelopes.  Like the powerful image of the red LIFE tape, an empty red envelope will send a message to Barack Obama that there is moral outrage in this country over this issue. It will be quiet, but clear.

Here is what I would like you to do:

Get a red envelope. (You can buy them at Kinkos, or at party supply stores.)

In the front, address it to:
 President Barack Obama
 The White House
 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
 Washington, D.C.

On the back, write the following message:

This envelope represents one child who died in abortion.  It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world.  Responsibility begins with conception.

Put it in the mail, and send it.

Then tell every one of your friends who you think would send one too. I wish we could send 50 million red envelopes, one for every child who died before having a a chance to live.  Maybe it will change the heart of the president.

What a "choice"!

A worried woman went to her gynecologist and said: "Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need your help! My baby is not even 1 yr. old and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids so close together.

So the doctor said: "OK, and what do you want me to do?" She said: "I want you to end my pregnancy, and I'm counting on your help with this".

The doctor thought for a little, and after some silence he said to the lady: "I think I have a better solution for your problem. It's less dangerous for you too.

She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request. Then he continued: "You see, in order for you not to have to take care of 2 babies at the same time, let's kill the one in your arms. This way, you could rest some before the other one is born. If we're going to kill one of them, it doesn't matter which one it is. There would be no risk for your body if you chose the one in your arms.

" The lady was horrified and said: "No doctor! How terrible! It's a crime to kill a child!"

"I agree," the doctor replied. "But you seemed to be ok with it, so I thought maybe that was the best solution." The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his point. He convinced the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that's already been born and one that's still in the womb.

Day 43 (of 40 Days for Life)....the election is over, many of us cried at the outcome, and yet there is still HOPE and many things for which to give thanks!  I admit, I was one who cried last night and had a hard time sleeping.  Today, however, the sun is shining and it is a new day!  Time to look forward--and on a sunny day, it's always much easier!  :)

Why did we pray & fast for 40 days?  Because we believe in the power of prayer and thus in God and that with Him, all things are possible!  Sure, we might want things done in a different way than what we are seeing right now...but we can surely pray for Obama's (and many others') conversion of heart when it comes to LIFE!

Because of the outcome of the Presidential election, some people are planning on going down to the abortion center to pray more often.  In fact, a man already contacted me today about what would be a good time to go and pray because he sees that he can't rely on the government.  Good for him!  So for all of you who may be thinking the same thing....any time that fits your schedule is a good time to go pray at the abortion center!  Tuesday through Friday are the days when women go to the center, either for "counselling" or abortions, so those are especially crucial days, but don't let that stop you--go any time and any day!  Mondays the staff is there, usually from 9am-5pm.  The other times when we think they're there are:  Tues:  8-5pm, Wed:  8-5pm, Thurs:  2-10pm, Fri: 8am-1pm.  These are approximates but it gives you an idea.  (Contact Helpers of God's Precious Infants if you want to be part of that group www.helpers-nwo.org or just show up!  Your prayers are important and needed!)

As we have seen over and over, God's timing is not ours.  We never know how God uses our prayers, right?  Well.....today there were 2 probable turn-arounds:
  1. a young woman and man who never talked with anyone told a counselor that they were keeping their baby!
  2. a young woman who talked with a counselor for awhile and then turned and walked back to her car and drove away.  Who knows--she might have changed her mind as well!  Pray for her that she did!
Never give up!  Always pray!  We are united in this quest to return to a Culture of Life, and although we may struggle with our government to do this, we must remember:   "All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was LIFE, and this LIFE was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."  (John 1:3-5)

Thanks to ALL of you, we did it!

Do you remember the goal I set at the Kick-off Rally--to have at least 1850 hours of prayer at the vigil site?  This number was the most recent statistic I could find for the number of babies aborted in Lucas County in a year--2006.  It was at the Final Hour that we reached the goal--and exceeded it by 94!  PRAISE BE TO GOD!!  My husband counted at least 120 people at the Prayer Service for the Unborn.  That number has to be fairly accurate because we printed 75 programs and there were many people there who didn't receive one!

To recap Day 40--it was gloomy and overcast at 1pm but when we began at 2pm, the sun was breaking through, and by the time we finished, we were enjoying beautiful weather!  All 3 of our events--Kick-off, Midpoint, and Final--were held outside the abortion center, and God provided gorgeous weather each time.  (In fact, we experienced good weather throughout the much of the 40 Days.)  Fr. Adam Hertzfeld led the prayer service part of the hour--you can read his homily at http://mediator.typepad.com/mediator/.  A few participants in 40DFL shared their experiences not only during the 40DFL but also as "pro-life" people.  I was blown away by how inspiring they were! A pro-life poem written by an anonymous prayer witness was read, and when I get the ok to share it with you, I will.  :)  The most touching of all, for me, were all the smiling faces and the voices lifted up in song--Christians united as one, standing side by side, praying for everything associated with the atrocity of abortion and yet--JOYFUL!  For those of you who were present, did you feel the LOVE amongst us?!?  I heard the comment made before the program began that a person had been looking forward to coming to be among like-minded people--I'm sure that sentiment was echoed in many hearts!  Even though we ended almost promptly at 3pm, many stayed to mingle with familiar faces and even to meet new people.  And hey!  We didn't even have food!  ;)

YOU are an awesome group of people!  Thank you--from the bottom of my heart--THANK YOU!!!  Your prayers--whether at the abortion center or not--were and are very much appreciated.  Going outside your comfort zones, stopping in to pray just because you were in the area, calling me to find out where I needed help with the hours, staying longer than you had expected so that another person wasn't alone, restraining yourselves when provoked by workers....  Seeds of love and compassion were planted--and blossomed!--on the sidewalk of downtown Toledo and in the hearts of many.

Let's not stop now, however!  We have much work to do and momentum is on our side.  No matter who wins the election, we need to pray harder than we ever have and work like never before!  This is a critical time in history, and anyone who thinks that abortion is just one issue among many needs our prayers.  We need conversion of hearts and of morals in this country--and it will only happen one person at a time.  Each of us CAN do something:

Visit www.40daysforlife.com/toledo and click on the Pro-life Things YOU Can Do! link.  There are many ways to get involved--by volunteering with Helpers of God's Precious Infants, Foundation For Life, Pregnancy Centers, etc--but also some simple ways like using pro-life checks and bumper stickers.  Never think an act is too small to affect others--one 40DFL yard sign was the catalyst for many families in one Presbyterian church to participate in this fall's campaign!  Also, please don't think you have to join a group in order to continue to come and pray outside the abortion center.  Keep coming!  Pray!  Pray!  Pray!

Feel free to send me your comments and stories about this fall's 40 Days for Life. (toledoeagle@hotmail.com)  If you give me the ok, I'll compile some snippets from our time spent together in prayer.  Even if you weren't able to make it to the prayer site, if you prayed for this campaign, you were a part of it!  A man came up to me after the Final Hour and told me that the Final Hour was his FIRST hour at 40DFL!  That was great!  It is NEVER too late to get involved in the pro-life work--but why wait?!?  While a person waits, more babies are dying.  Haven't we as a nation waited too long already?  SO...40DFL is over for 2008--but let's keep going!  This "battle" may be over but the war goes on!  DON'T STOP NOW!

~11/3/08

On a cold, windy, & rainy Thursday evening, we stood in prayer outside the Center for Choice abortion center.  Car after car drove into their parking lot, and many girls were brought by their parents to that place of death.  Can you imagine actively supporting the killing of your own grandchild?!?  Please pray for these parents for I'm sure that if they thought about it in those terms, they would think differently.  (At least I pray they would!)

We were given a "kiss" last evening:  a couple drove by and rolled down their window to talk with one of the sidewalk counsellors.  "Would you like some information?" the counsellor asked them.  "No thanks," they replied.  "We've decided to keep the baby."  Oh joy of joys!  Thanks be to God!  Please offer a prayer of thanksgiving today for this gift--and for the couple that they continue to listen to the inspirations that I'm sure were given to them yesterday.

Ash Wednesday...the first day of Lent!  What an appropriate day for the spring campaign of 40 Days for Life to begin!  From today (Feb. 6) through March16, 59 cities in 31 states will hold peaceful, prayerful vigils in front of abortion centers.  Check out the 40 DFL website and stay updated about this powerful event.  We held one in Toledo last fall and because of it, this website was born!  Dayton, OH, is holding one this spring in front of Dr. Martin Haskell's late-term abortion clinic.  Click on their link to get more information.  (Also, check out the EVENTS page on this website.)  Pray for them and all the cities, and if you can do it, physically join them!

I encourage you to include praying for the end to abortion and a conversion of hearts as one of your Lenten resolutions.  Spend an hour or more praying outside your local abortion center--be that witness that might change the heart of just one person!

Today we marked the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade--the landmark Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in our country at the national level.  Let us each continue to pray for God to give us the strength to fight for our unborn brothers and sisters.  Let us also pray for a conversion of hearts for all those involved in the abortion industry--the clients, the workers/staff, the abortionists, those who stand silently by while a loved one decides to have an abortion, the politicians who are for abortion rights.  It will be a great day when our society considers abortion to be an outrage, not a "choice".

May God have mercy on our nation for legalizing this atrocity!

Welcome!  I hope you find this websiteto be a helpful place where you can learn more about the pro-life movement and find a "home"--an organization where you can put your talents to work so that others may have life!

Although this is based in NW Ohio and the events will be mostly for the surrounding area, all the information on this website will NOT be strictly local information.  I hope to continually add new links so as to always keep YOU as informed as possible.  Check back often, and if you know of sites, groups, events, etc. that I don't have listed, be sure and email me with that information.

May God bless us as we do our best to further the Culture of Life!
